In Hawaiian culture, an ʻaumākua is a family guardian believed to offer protection, guidance, and connection to those under its care. ʻAumākua are often passed down through generations and may appear in many forms, including animals, natural elements, or other meaningful symbols.

These connections are deeply personal and unique to each family, carrying stories and traditions that connect generations to one another. More than simply a symbol, an ʻaumākua represents a continuing relationship between family, ancestry, and the natural world—a reminder that those who came before us can continue to guide and watch over us.
