Beneath the surface of Hawaiʻi’s waters, I came across a quiet moment I could have easily missed—a honu gliding effortlessly through the current.
Its shell carried a beautiful mosaic of earthy colors and patterns, catching the light reflection as it moved. It didn't seem bothered by the strength of the water. Instead, it simply moved with it, slow and graceful.
Loose strands of limu drifted alongside the honu, carried by the same current. For a moment, everything seemed to move together—the turtle, the seaweed, and the water surrounding them.
I could have watched it forever.
There was something peaceful about witnessing a creature so completely at home in its surroundings. A small, beautiful reminder of the quiet magic that exists beneath the surface.
