Lauaʻe Fern · Microsorum scolopendria

Lauaʻe is a fern known not for a bright flower, but for its fragrance. When its leaves are gently handled or crushed, they release a scent reminiscent of maile—a familiar fragrance that has long been associated with lei and the lush landscapes of Hawaiʻi.

Lauaʻe has been used for lei, hula adornment, hula altars, and scenting kapa, bringing its fragrance into important cultural practices.

There is something especially beautiful about lauaʻe: you may not notice it right away. You notice it when you get close. Its beauty is quiet, and its fragrance carries a sense of place.

A fern, a fragrance, and a little piece of Kauaʻi—remembered not only by how it looks, but by how it makes you feel.
