If you asked me what my favorite color is, I wouldn’t have to think twice: green—ʻōmaʻomaʻo.

I’ve always felt drawn to it. Maybe it’s because green makes me feel alive. It reminds me of growth, renewal, and the feeling of being connected to something bigger than myself. On Kauaʻi, I see it everywhere—in the mountains, the valleys, the trees, and the ʻāina that has become such a meaningful part of my life.

At golden hour, the first light reaches across the island, illuminating the sharp mountain ridges before slowly spilling into the valleys below. The contrast between the deep shadows and glowing greens makes the landscape feel almost alive.

Sitting along the edge of a mountain ridge with my feet dangling below, I feel small, grounded, and completely at peace. I take a deep breath, feeling the cool breeze against my skin and the warmth of the sun on my face.

For a moment, there is nothing I need to do and nowhere I need to be.

Just me, the mountains, and the feeling of being exactly where I am meant to be.

These are the moments that remind me how beautiful it is simply to be alive.
